SUMMARY:  System Engineer will have a Linux focus; support and build upon the current infrastructure; develop future strategies for assigned platforms; maintain the health of systems by identifying patch and firmware upgrades; insure stability by monitoring for trends of issues and growth.   Implement and document configuration standards, policies and procedures for the deployment and support of supported systems.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engineering, administering and troubleshooting Linux Server platforms.

Infrastructure design and support of VMware ESX/VC platform.

Maintain Disaster Recovery documentation and execution.

Interface with other technical staff regarding availability of the infrastructure, health of the hardware, technical considerations for planning and managing hardware replacements.

Escalation point for operations in the event of issues with the technical design and functionality.

Reviews customer forecast and implements a deliver plan.

Provides in-depth diagnosis for system software/hardware failures and develops solutions.

Identify when platform software and OS upgrades are needed; coordinate upgrades to ensure timely scheduling and completion; ensure that appropriate documentation exists prior to implementation.

Monitor end-user feedback in order to recommend future support and product enhancements.

Research and make recommendations on disaster recovery plan, design technology, and preparation.

Participate in being on-call, ensuring proper resolution to escalated issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and experience: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field and 5-7 years experience which should include implementing and administering Enterprise Production Linux platforms, engineering/supporting Linux environments and engineering solutions for application specific requirements or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Skills:

Extensive experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Perl)

Proficient in Visio or similar software to provide technical documentation.

Capable of managing an Enterprise VMware platform.

Must have a strong understanding of monitoring technologies like Nagios and Solarwinds.

Experience leading projects engagements, establishing milestones, tracking progress, leading execution.

Microsoft Windows Server support a plus. 

Ability to work calmly and flexibly in order to respond to multiple competing priorities.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
